final(from left: Tsukahara, Tomita, Yoneda) |
36 gymnasts qualified into
the all-round final, and were divided into six
groups. Isao Yoneda, Naoya Tsukahara, Hiroyuki Tomita
and Tomoharu Sano
were in the first group with the collegiate gymnasts,
Ryuta Nakazato and
Kazuya Ueda. Olympians Daisuke Nakano and Hisashi
Mizutori were in the
second group.
ROTATION 1
Ryuta Nakazato (FX): His first and second passes were
the combination of
three consecutive somersaults to get 0.5 bonus points.
He dismounted with
a tucked full-in. 9.400.
Tomoharu Sano (FX): Landed almost on his back on his
first pass after the
third somersault, layout rudi. He scored only 8.400.
Hiroyuki Tomita (FX): His first pass (which he missed
in the
qualification) was successful, even though he went
out of bounds, and he
changed his second pass from tucked double-double to
tucked full-in. His
8.975 was a bad start for him.
Naoya Tsukahara (FX): He went out of bounds on his
layout double-double
(SE) on his first pass. A big step backward in his
tucked full-in
dismount left him with a score of 9.300.
Isao Yoneda (FX): Very solid on his three somersault
combination, and
stuck his tucked full-in dismount for a 9.650.
Kazuya Ueda (FX): The first and second passes with
three consecutive
somersaults were good, but he bounced on the landing
of his Thomas roll to<
score only 9.150.
Hisashi Mizutori (PH): No major break, but small mistakes
cost him. He
received only 9.250.
Daisuke Nakano (PH): Supposed to perform an E-skill
dismount, but changed
to a D dismount. A safe routine and his score was 9.100.
Naoya Tabara (SR): Hit a very high level of difficulty
in his dismount,
layout double-double for 9.325.
Yosuke Hoshi (HB): The defending champion on this event
hit Kolman and his
series of the flawless el-grip skills. Stuck his layout
double-double
dismount to score 9.750. He was first after this rotation!
ROTATION 2
Sano (PH): He missed on this event in the qualification,
and in the all
around final he had a balance check on variations of
his Wu Gonian.
Scored only 9.300.
Mizutori (SR): A little weak on swing to handstand
and a step on the
landing. 9.400.
Tomita (PH): Wu Gonyan, Fedrchenko, Sivado travel,
E-Flop… beautifully
done. Double scissors and dismount was executed beautifully
to score
9.625. Recovered well from the low score on floor and
started to catch up
with the leaders.
Tsukahara (PH): Hit his routine with good execution
but his score was
only 9.400.
Yoneda (PH): Hit his routine, but his lower body was
not controlled on his
one pommel work. Scored only 9.325.
Ueda (PH): On his favorite event, his circles were
very speedy but small
deductions brought him down to 9.325.
Nakazato (PH): Fell on Wu Gonyan. Scored only 7.500
to fall out of medal
contention.
Nakano (SR): Improved his strength elements like Mizutori.
Piked Guzogy
and triple back somersault were well executed, but
his score was only
8.900. He lacks solid strength work.
Tabara (VT): A good landing of Driggs to score 9.500.
After this rotation…
1. Yoneda 18.875, 2. Tabara 18.825, 3. Tsukahara
18.700, 4. Mizutori
18.650, 5. Tomita 18.600
ROTATION 3
Tomita (SR): Perfect execution on both strength and
swing elements. Stuck
double layout to score 9.775
Tsukahara (SR): Great performance with some different
strength elements
from the other top gymnasts. Stuck his dismount to
score 9.575.
Yoneda (SR): His second Maltese was a little arched
and got a deduction.
Scored only 9.200.
Ueda (SR): The positions in his strength elements were
not bad, but he
used a kipping action on his straight armed backward
roll to cross. Scored
only 9.150.
Nakazato (SR): Great power on each strength element
to score 9.500.
Sano (SR): Very good position in Maltese and cross,
and held them long
enough. Stuck his dismount and scored 9.625.
Mizutori (VT): A big step forward in Driggs. Scored
9.400.
Nakano (VT): Very beautiful double twisting Yurchenko
and stuck his
landing. Scored 9.475, which was a very high score
for this skill (SV
9.7).
Tabara (PB): Peach to Belle, Makuts, Healy, Straddle
front to upper arm
support. Scored 9.300.
After this rotation…
1. Tomita 28.375, 2. Tsukahara 28.275, 3. Yoneda
28.175, 4. Tabara
28.125, 5. Mizutori 28.050
ROTATION 4
Tsukahara (VT): A step forwad on his double twisting
Yurchenko. Scored
9.325.
Mizutori (PH): The series for bonus points, Peach half
mount, peach half,
peach, Belle, did not have good rhythm, and he did
not hit each handstand
well. Scored only 9.300.
Yoneda (VT): Sat down on Driggs. Scored only 9.050.
Ueda (VT): Kasamatsu-full. Lacked height and distance
and straddled his
legs. 9.075.
Nakano (PB): World’s favorite performance at
the Olympics. Piked Belle;
Peach to Belle; Wells to Tippelt. Stuck double pike
dismount. Very
beautiful routine but he made a slight balance check
in his straddle cut
to L-sit. Scored 9.600.
Nakazato (VT): Stuck Kasamatsu-full to score 9.450.
Sano (VT): Tried Roche, but his landing position was
very low and scored
only 9.275.
Tomita (VT): A small step forward in Driggs. 9.475.
Tabara (HB): Kolman and el-grip skills were well executed
with good speed.
Stuck layout double-double to score 9.600. Climbed
up to second place.
After this rotation…
1. Tomita 37.850, 2. Tabara 37.725, 3. Tsukahara
37.600, 4. Mizutori
37.350, 5. Yoneda 37.225
ROTATION 5
Yoneda (PB): Hit his routine. Peach half mount, peach
half, peach, Peters.
Stuck double pike dismount to score 9.500.
Ueda (PB): Peach half mount, peach half, peach, Belle.
Small deductions in
the executions gave him only 9.300.
Sano (PB): Peach half, peach, Belle; piked Belle. Hit
his routine cleanly
except for his dismount (one step) to score 9.500.
Tomita (PB): The best gymnast in the qualification
on this event, but had
a very big deduction in his dismount. Scored only 9.400.
Mizutori (HB): Layout Kovacs, Kolman, Kovacs… Very
exciting and gorgeous
releases! His Rivalko was also very dynamic. He scored
9.675.
Nakano (HB): Could not connect Kolman and hop giant
with one and a half
twist to wrong grip (he had an extra giant between
them). This lowered
his SV and he scored only 9.400.
Tsukahara (PB): Showed an obvious leg separation on
his peach half. Could
not stick his landing and scored 9.375.
Tabara (FX): Hit an SE combination: whip back to Layout
Thomas roll
(Turbanov), as the world champion Jovtchev did at the
Olympics. Another
combination, two and a half twisting back somersault,
barani, 1 3/4 front
sommie was very original. 9.400. Still kept second
place.
After this rotation…
1. Tomita 47.250, 2. Tabara 47.125, 3. Mizutori
47.125, 4. Tsukahara
46.975, 5. Yoneda 46.725.
ROTATION 6
Ueda (HB): Hit his routine including Kolman, but his
score was only 9.250.
Nakazato (HB): Another exciting routine. Kolman and
piked Kovacs were very
big. He had a very big hop forward on his dismount,
but scored 9.675.
Sano (HB): Hit his routine including Kolman and stuck
layout
double-double. 9.475.
Tabara (PH): Under big pressure, he did not miss on
this event: Magyar
travel, Sivado travel, Wu Gonyan, Fedrchenko. But he
scored only a
disappointing 8.600. He placed sixth eventually.
Tomita (HB): Full twisting piked Stalder to one and
a half twisting piked
Stalder was smoothly done, and his Kolman was very
beautiful. He could not
stick his dismount, but scored 9.700.
Tsukahara (HB): Tried a very difficult combination
of Kolman to hop giant
with one and a half twist to wrong grip, but wobbled
and needed to bend
his elbow in the following giant. The rest of his routine
was cleanly
done and scored 9.475. Placed second by 0.500 after
Tomita.
Mizutori (FX): Two passes of three consecutive somersaults
were
successfully done, and he also hit Fedrchenko and Thomas
roll. Dismounted
with tucked double back somersault but did not stick.
9.350 was not enough
to pass Tsukahara.
Yoneda (HB): Hit his first series; piked Stalder with
a full twist,
Rivalko, full twisting el-grip giant. His Kovacs was
high. Dismounted
with layout double-double but did not stick. Score
was 9.700 and he placed
third eventually.
Nakano (FX): Did not make a major break, but went out
of bounds. 9.525 was
good enough to climb to fifth place.
Finally, Tomita recaptured his national title, and
the other four
Olympians entered the top 5. Even though the other
competitors were very
strong and talented, the five Olympians showed what
they had accomplished
at the Olympics and how they had deserved a gold medal.
