| Ishizaka was the top qualifier for the Universiade |
The order of the performers of the sessions of Day
2 were divided according to the scores after Day
1, but the first session included the gymnasts
who competed for the Universiade qualification
only. The later the competition went, the level
of performance was supposed to be better. However,
we unfortunately saw a lot of mistakes from the
gymnasts in the last session...
While the number of mistakes increased in the last
session, Manami Ishizaka was notably different from
the others; she showed mental strength and that her
gymnastics was unbeatable. She hit every routine, and
nobody could imagine an error from her. She currently
is the top qualifier not only for the NHK Cup but also
for the World Championships and East Asian Games teams.
Uemura and Oshima, who were second and third respectively, were not up
for today. Uemura was completely out of shape, missing vault and uneven
bars, and going out of bounds on floor. Oshima made big mistakes on every
event except vault.
Sahara was much better today than yesterday including
excellent roundoff- layout back somersalt mount on
beam and an awesome Tkachev on uneven bars. She
got third place over Oshima. Kuroda was strong not
only on her best event, uneven bars, but also on floor,
in which she had an error yesterday. Momoko Ozawa,
as well as Kuroda, was a very young gymnast but excellent
in her dance elements on beam and floor. Kuroda and
Ozawa were fifth and sixth respectively.
At this competition, the women's Universiade squad
would be selected, and the battle for the number five
spot was extremely exciting. The top three spots went
to Ishizaka, Uemura, and Sahara without doubt, but
the filling of the rest of the spots was unpredictable.
Yamamoto had a fall on uneven bars, and Mizoguchi missed
again on beam, just like yesterday. Yamamoto, however,
was calm on the later events and got a spot. Even though
the reigning national champion, Ichikawa, had strong
performances on beam and floor, Tanaka got the final
spot over Ichikawa by only 0.025. Tanaka had small
breaks on beam but she cleanly hit a beautiful Yurchenko
with 1 1/2 twist to score 9.000, which qualified her
for the Universiade.
